Q&A with draft pick Tyler Lassiter
January 26, 2011

Metro's second round draft pick Tyler Lassiter was kind enough to answer a few questions.

MetroFanatic: You have been praised for your passing skills from the back, something we saw with Tim Ream last year. How do you think those skills will help you transition to the pros?
Tyler Lassiter: I believe being able to play out of the back is key for the next level. These skills will hopefully help me earn playing time and show the coaches I can perform at the level they expect.

MF: You led your team in scoring as a defender. For those who haven't watched much college soccer, where did the goals come from?
TL: I took the penalties for my team so some of my goals came from PK's. We had a player who had an unbelievable throw in which we would use to put the ball into the box. His throw in was just as good as a corner kick. I was able to get my head on some of his throw in's which found the back of the net. One goal was from when I was playing forward and I found a loose ball and dribbled a defender and scored in the run of play. Another goal came from a set piece pretty far out which I thought the keeper should have made the save but he didn't.

MF: How does it feel to be the first Wolfpack (Wolfpackian?) to be part of this franchise since Tab Ramos?
TL: That is an incredible feeling. Tab Ramos was an amazing player who sets the bar very high. It will be hard to compare myself with a player like that. I've always loved NC State and want to represent them with the best of my ability.

MF: When Roy Lassiter played for various Metro opponents, he was serenaded with "where's my TV, Roy Lassiter?" on the count of him stealing a TV when he was younger. You are not related, are you?
TL: No, I am not related to Roy Lassiter. I have been asked that by a lot of people. His mother is actually a tutor at NC State who would tutor me on occasion.
